The Yoga of the Brahmins originates from Kerala, South India.

It is said to have been passed down for approximately 35,000 years, though it may be even older. It is one of the school that laid the foundation for the various forms of yoga practiced today.

Ancient Master Yoga is referred to in Sanskrit as “Pūrveṣām Ācārya Yoga” (पूर्वेषामाचार्ययोग)

Pūrveṣām means “ancient” or “of the ancients.”

Ācārya means “teacher” or “master.”

The name “Ancient Master Yoga” was coined by my teacher, Master Kimura, the head of Kijuku (Qi School), to make it easier to understand.

How was this yoga passed down?

The tradition was preserved by teachers staying at the homes of their students, where the teachings were practiced in secrecy. Writing down the teachings was forbidden, and all knowledge was transmitted orally. However, with the changing times, there arose a concern that this knowledge might one day disappear if left in its original oral-only form. For this reason, it has now become possible to preserve the teachings in written form.

Origins and Connections to Ayurveda and Siddha Medicine

Kerala, South India, is the birthplace of Ayurvedic medicine and Siddha medicine. Ancient Master Yoga is said to have originated within Ayurveda, though it also has a deep connection to Siddha medicine.

Ayurveda was passed down in Sanskrit, while Siddha medicine was preserved in Tamil. While the two systems differ in medical practices and methodologies, they share common principles:

Both are based on Vedic knowledge.

They emphasize balancing the body, mind, and soul.

They consider the five great elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Ether) as the fundamental building blocks of both the human body and the universe.

Ayurveda later spread throughout India and developed further, particularly in North India, while Siddha medicine flourished primarily in South India.

Why is Ancient Master Yoga considered suitable for handling Yin energy?

In the MYQ Breathing Method, the breathing techniques of Ancient Master Yoga are applied in the Level 1 and Level 4 (while there are additional stages, only these can be disclosed here). This yoga is particularly effective in working with Yin energy.

Why is it called the Yoga of the Brahmins?

Ancient Master Yoga was traditionally passed down among the Brahmins. The Brahmins, who belonged to the priestly caste, held a position higher than warriors and royalty. They conducted religious rituals, studied the Vedas, and taught this knowledge to others. Their status was inherited from parent to child.

However, not all individuals who inherited this status were deemed mature or capable enough to fully assume their roles. For such individuals, practicing Ancient Master Yoga helped to promote the circulation of energy, fill them with vitality, and strengthen both their body and mind.

This is how Ancient Master Yoga came to be known as the Yoga of the Brahmins.
