This is a central practice in Ancient Master Yoga.

“Tonglen” is a Tibetan word where tong means “to give” and len means “to receive.” In Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan esoteric traditions, Tonglen is a meditation practice aimed at cultivating compassion for others. It helps practitioners let go of their own suffering and ego while fostering a mindset of wishing for the happiness of others.

In Sanskrit, it is called Dhyana and Samapatti, while in Neidan Method, it is referred to as “Jou” (meaning stillness or concentration).

In the MYQ Breathing Method, Tonglen is utilized in a different way than the traditional compassion meditation. By circulating Qi (energy) between oneself and others, it enables mental and sensory fusion, allowing practitioners to perceive and understand the current state of the other person.

When one learns proper breathing techniques and gains control over emitting and receiving Qi, anyone can utilize this practice. Qi flows out of the body with exhalation and enters the body with inhalation. Through mental fusion and understanding others, a sense of concern for others. Giving arise to the question—why are they feeling that way? Fostering a compassionate mindset. This concern for the other leads to sensory fusion.

If there is anything unnecessary within the process of mental and sensory fusion, one can create an opposing wave (emotion) and send it back to the other person. This process is known as “mental transplantation.”

This method of Tonglen has been used in Ancient Master Yoga as a non-pharmaceutical approach for improving conditions such as depression and autonomic nervous system disorders since ancient times.

And by mastering Tonglen, one becomes able to sense even more subtle waves. This requires careful adjustment of one’s own waves and fine-tuning of energy levels through proper breathing techniques, which are crucial for this practice.

Ultimately, Tonglen aims to achieve harmony with all beings and phenomena. By understanding everything, one attains the ability to truly understand oneself—this is the ultimate purpose of the practice.
