Hello, everyone! Today, I’d like to talk about chakras.
Have you heard of chakras before?
If you practice yoga or meditation, you might already be familiar with them.
Chakras are the seven energy centers within the human body.
In traditional Chinese medicine, they are sometimes associated with Dantian(丹田).
There is an invisible energy that fills the natural world.
In this context, we refer to this energy as Prana.
(Please consider the term Prana used in MYQ as different from the Prana used in yoga. I use the word Prana to distinguish it from the energy activated through Qigong. The activated energy is referred to as Qi.)
Prana is a very light and inactive form of energy.
We absorb prana into our bodies through breathing, eating, and the first chakra.
Once absorbed, it passes through the second chakra and is distributed throughout the body via Qi vein called Nadis in Sanskrit.
These energy channels, known as Qi meridians in traditional Chinese medicine, are not limited to meridians alone.
They also include blood vessels, nerve pathways, and other energy pathways within the body.
In fact, there are approximately 27,000 energy channels circulating within the body.
The Seven Main Chakras and Their Locations
1. First Chakra (Root Chakra) – Located at the perineum, the area between the genitals and the anus.
2. Second Chakra (Sacral Chakra) – Positioned about 7 cm (around 3 inches) below the navel, also known as Dantian.
3. Third Chakra (Solar Plexus Chakra) – Located about 7 cm (around 3 inches) above the navel.
4. Fourth Chakra (Heart Chakra) – As the name suggests, it is located in the chest.
While some sources mention the heart as its location, it is actually not situated within the heart itself.
If you try to locate it, you’ll find that it is slightly lower than the center of the chest, around the lower sternum (underbust area).
5. Fifth Chakra (Throat Chakra) – Found at the throat area.
To locate it, place your ring finger on the dip between your collarbones, with your fingers extended parallel to the floor.
The chakra is roughly in the area where your index and middle fingers rest.
6. Sixth Chakra (Third Eye Chakra) – Some say it is located at the pineal gland,
but in my experience, I feel that its position is slightly misaligned in the front and back direction. This chakra is also known as the Third Eye.
7. Seventh Chakra (Crown Chakra) – Found at the top of the head.
In acupuncture, it corresponds to the important point Baihui (百会, GV20).
Although these seven chakras are not perfectly aligned along the spine,
they are generally arranged in a vertical line along the body’s center.
In the next post, I will explain the specific roles of each chakra!
